UK poised to recognise Palestine as Israel rejects ceasefire terms

The British government is poised to formally recognise a Palestinian state, with an announcement expected as early as Friday, The Guardian reported.

This move follows Israel's failure to meet key UK conditions, including agreeing to a ceasefire in the Gaza conflict. Prime Minister Keir Starmer confirmed the timing of the decision is unrelated to former US President Donald Trump’s current visit to the country.

At a press conference, Trump stated he disagreed with Britain’s decision but did not elaborate further.

The anticipated recognition is likely to provoke strong condemnation from Israel.

British officials say their plan requires the Palestinian Authority’s leadership to submit to elections within a year.
